A couple of shots from the derelict aerodrome near Crail on the Fife coast. During WWII, a torus shaped torpedo trainer was constructed for training pilots. Targets were projected onto the wall, you can see the blue painted horizon in the first photo. The pilot sat on a swiveling chair suspended from the gantry overhead. There’s more photos, with some context here. The tin roof is now full of holes and pigeons have crapped all over the place, but it’s an interesting place to poke around. A window into the past, before computer simulations and assisted targeting.
I like both images, but the first one especially; a Jackson Pollock moment I think!
There was some great light in the building due to the holes in the roof, but the pigeons and sheep all had a part in this shot too 🙂
Fascinating – looks like you caught some of that great light. Good link you’ve provided as well.
I was staring at that first photie for ages, trying to see if I could work it out without reading the description.
(No, predictably!)
Most enjoyable.
